Challenge #3: A Touch of Happiness

The challenge:
Tell the story of a character's first successful conjuration of a corporeal Patronus of a particular shape.
The setting:
Any time and any place, within the framework of canon (no AU).
Restrictions/Guidelines:
1. The story should be from the point of view of the person casting the Patronus.
2. You may not write from Harry's PoV. Any other canon character is allowed. If a character's Patronus shape is known from the seven novels (not movies, interviews, etc), you must use or at least acknowledge that shape (see note below).
3. You must include the 'happy memory' which powers the Patronus.
4. You must describe the Patronus' shape. Any non-magical creature is allowed, and any magical creature found in canon is allowed (this includes the 'textbook' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them).
5. You must describe what the main character feels when s/he attempts to physically touch the corporeal Patronus.
6. Maximum allowed length: 1000 words
7. No alpha/beta readers/editors allowed. This story should be conceived, written, and edited solely by the author without any external input.
Implied in the prompt is a requirement to describe the occasion of the conjuration. Where, when, and how did it happen? Was it during an attack or a private moment of practice? Was it during a DA meeting or a DA lesson? There are endless possibilities, even without changing known canon information (for instance, Hermione's first conjuration clearly occurred during a DA meeting).
Note: the first corporeal Patronus of a particular shape is not the same as the first corporeal Patronus ever. As we know, the shape of a person's Patronus can change. If you wish to change a shape that is known from canon, you must indicate why and when the change occurred. In essence, the story should still fit within the framework of canon.
This challenge permits stories in any genre and with almost any attributes. The only real limit is your imagination.

You may submit stories for the challenge any time before midnight Pacific Time on December 31, 2008. However, all challenge stories will be posted on January 1, 2009. Until that time, your story will not appear on the site. You may edit your story as much as you wish until it is posted, but after that time, editing your story (aside from fixing html tags, formatting, and other non-story details) will disqualify it from the competition.
