Fates Debt Plagiarism

This is being hijacked by someone on fanfic.net.

They are claiming that:

followed the etiquette guidelines for taking over a story without the permission of the author.

As far as i am aware there is no process. Follow the link and have your say.

Intromit is dead?

Did you read up to the third chapter? You read the note but not the rest of the story and in recent light the author may have died I have gotten this from a very close person to the source . So please don't read I said one chapter is similar not the same read the rest! Or better yet don't ** You who the hell do you think you are. Go to Hell and ** Rot There For All I Care.

Where did they write this?

I looked for this at fanfiction.net, but didn't find it. Did you email them and receive this horrible response?

It was the response I got to my review. I did rejoin the Fates Debt Yahoo group to see if anyone could verify ( I mean if he had died- heaven forbid) but no response as yet.

Wow

Wow. Even if the author did die, how disrespectful! That's right up the same creek as the woman from Cooks Source who was flagrantly plagerising from all over the Internet.

I haven't spoken to Intromit

I haven't spoken to Intromit in over a year; however, I did email him the link and a quick how are you doing. Being his beta, I probably have a good chance of reaching him, unless any of you know him in real life.

I emailed Ruby as well, so I hope that he will respond to someone.

Etiquette?

Not only has she stolen the story, she's turning it into crap.

Any word on Intromit?

No, no word.

wow, it really is

crap. That's a shame. But it's pretty much cat-herding to try to explain intellectual property to many younger folks. The worst thing about that is, a lot of kids will try to imply that it's a generation-gap thing - when in fact, it's an ignorance thing. Good luck, everyone.

BTW there's another story on ff.net called "Phantom Limb" featuring memoryloss!Harry. Fascinating.

Hmm. There's also a

Hmm. There's also a doppelganger of MoO somewhere on ff.net, in which both h/g and r/hr have separate "bonds." I don't think it's been updated in a while. Perhaps we could identify a plagiarism threshold, based on the idea that a million monkeys at a million typewriters will eventually replicate (-ish) anything that is reasonably recognizable. There would be some point, measured in time, hits, links, etc, beyond which probability catches up and plagiarism is inevitable. We'll call it Shakespeare's Constant.

A million monkey produce mediocrity

I read this today, and thought it apt:

Quote:

Today’s technology hooks all those monkeys up to all those typewriters. Except in our Web 2.0 world, the typewriters aren’t quite typewriters, but rather networked personal computers, and the monkeys aren’t quite monkeys, but rather Internet users. And instead of creating masterpieces, these millions and millions of exuberant monkeys—many with no more talent in the creative arts than our primate cousins—are creating an endless digital forest of mediocrity. For today’s amateur monkeys can use their networked computers to publish everything from uninformed political commentary, to unseemly home videos, to embarrassingly amateurish music, to unreadable poems, reviews, essays and novels.

Closure?

From the Fates debt Yahoo group.....

Hello all,

The story that Richard was referencing has been taken down off of ff.net.

The story, "Fate's Debt and the Philosopher's Stone", was and is written by intromit's long time friend and the original beta for "Harry Potter and Fate's Debt". This story was fully sanctioned by Brant(intromit) and he even served as beta for many chapters the first time it was posted. Tyler, the author of Fate's Debt and the Philosopher's Stone, has also been one of the moderators of this group.

I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season full of family and friends.

Ruby

Appears that either the site made them take it down or they go so annoyed at the likes of me calling 'foul', they gave up.

I'm slightly confused…

…are they referring to two separate stories?

Upon inspection it would seem so: "Fate's Debt and the Philosopher's Stone" ( http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4511758/ ) is still up and has been updated within the last month or so (having begun in August 2008). A quick skim of the first chapter makes me hope fervently that the quality picks up later.

Fates Debt and the Philosopher's Stone was meant to be an expanded version of the first chapter of Fate's Debt. The intention was to show the developing bond between Harry and Ginny and show what they had to go through in that first year. The problem with the story is that the author quickly diverged from the original plot and went off into left field and started creating a dark and rather disturbing story. He actually has 11 year old Harry attempt suicide by jumping from the Astronomy Tower after Dumbledore severs his bond with Ginny. The story is depressing and I would not recommend it to anyone as the author is using the story as a vehicle for airing out his own issues instead of actually writing a story that is about Harry Potter.

I thought the issue was with "Harry Potter and Ginny Bonded," and that author's claim that Intromit was dead.

Is there any word on that front?
