Filtering on Recent posts

Hi

Is there any chance of adding a filtering system on the Recent posts tool?
I'd love to be able to say only show forum posts, or show everything except stories and chapters, or posts by a specific author.

What I'm picturing is an add filter link at the top, which then lets select a heading, and filter term, and a check box to select whether its an include filter or an exclude filter.

Of course this may or may not be practical, and there are other ways it could be implemented. Being that this is the page I check most frequently, it would be nice to have the added functionality.

I like the functionality of that, though its more intrusive than I'd like... is there any way to hide it like you can with the sections on the left by clicking on the little triangles?
