In Which Ginny And Harry Say The Magic Words

Sacrifice - Chapter 20: In Which Ginny And Harry Say The Magic Words by mmerriam

Throughout the entire month of January, Ginny rushed from classes to be with Melinda during meals. While Melinda would take the bottles Ginny left for Katie to use, Ginny much preferred to nurse her child personally.

The late night feedings had been the biggest shock. After two weeks of both Ginny and Harry getting no sleep, Katie had insisted that she be allowed to take the late night feedings so they could get some rest and hopefully keep up their marks in school. To make matters worse, Professor McGonagall had reminded Ginny she would be taking her O.W.Ls with the fifth years over the course of March and April.

Ginny had cried on Harry's shoulder more once, afraid she was being a terrible mother for allowing others to take care of her child more than she was. Harry reassured her that she was doing fine and was being smart for allowing others to help them when they needed it.

Then there was the added stress of the impending marriage. Ginny wanted her wedding to be in February. She was tired of waiting and wanted to make it official. Ginny had been losing weight quickly so she could fit properly into her wedding robes, though Harry had assured her he would happily marry her no matter what size she was.

Mrs. Weasley had arranged for Madam Malkin to come to the school and fit Ginny for her wedding robes, as well as Harry and Ron for formal robes and Hermione for her bridesmaid robes. The little witch had happily hummed away as she fitted them. The day the wedding robes were delivered Ginny tried them on with help from Hermione. When Ginny looked at herself in the mirror she had to force herself not to cry all over the white silk robes. She couldn't believe she was finally going to marry the man she loved.

The next problem had been deciding who would officiate. The Fat Friar, Hufflepuff's ghost, had offered, wistfully pointing out that he hadn't performed a wedding in over five hundred years. There was some concern about whether a ghost could perform a legal wedding, but Hermione dug up a precedent for it in an old wizarding legal guide she discovered in the library.

The night before the wedding Ron, Seamus, and Neville ambushed Harry outside the door of his and Ginny's rooms. They made it clear that he was to have a final party that night in the Gryffindor Common room. Ginny was to spend the evening being fussed over by several of her friends, mostly Gryffindor girls, but also Susan Bones and Daphne Greengrass.

In the morning Ginny awoke to the sound of Harry's voice at the door. Apparently Lavender and Daphne were refusing Harry admittance. Harry was arguing loudly that he wanted to see his fiancé, but the girls were adamant that it was bad luck for the groom to see the bride the day of the wedding. Ginny wanted to see Harry, but Susan and Parvati wouldn't let her leave the room. Hermione and Amber brought Harry his clothing and some shower items and sternly told him to go back to Gryffindor Tower to get ready.

Mrs. Weasley arrived to assist her daughter in preparing for her big day. Ginny spent the morning being fussed over. Mrs. Weasley helped her on with her robes while Lavender worked on Ginny's hair. Parvati took charge of make-up. Amber and Susan assisted Hermione into her bridesmaid robes, while Daphne directed traffic and dealt with the various visitors, most of whom seemed slightly frightened of the small girl dressed all in black. It could have been the magenta hair she was sporting for the occasion.

After what seemed forever, Ginny found herself standing outside the Great Hall with her father, who was waiting to escort his daughter down the aisle.

Looking back on that day, Ginny would be thankful that her brother Charlie took as many pictures as he did. From the moment she entered the Great Hall with her father and saw Harry waiting there, her mind went into a daze. She remembered exchanging vows. Yes, she clearly remembered saying "I do" at the proper moment. And she definitely remembered being kissed.

After the ceremony Professor Flitwick (who had cried nearly as much as Molly Weasley) changed the Great Hall from wedding chapel to reception hall. Ginny remembered the reception a little better. She had been congratulated by almost everyone in the school. She shook hands until her fingers hurt. She remembered the decision to hide the bridal bouquet and let the single girls search for it, as Professor McGonagall was concerned that there might be a riot should Ginny actually throw it. There was definitely a cake and a first dance. And then a dance with her father and, one by one, all her brothers. She danced with Professor Flitwick, then Professor Black, and then finally Professor Dumbledore himself.

At last, when she thought she simply couldn't take anymore joyous celebration, she heard a voice whisper in her ear. "Well, Mrs. Potter, would you care to go someplace a little more private?"

Ginny giggled. She couldn't see Harry, which meant he must be hidden under his invisibility cloak. "Okay."

"Move over toward the doors. When you get there try to slip out of them. I'll toss the cloak over you as you step out."

Ginny slowly made her way toward the doors. She had to stop twice to speak with well wishers. She was almost to her target when she saw the twins bearing down on her. She was considering hexing them both then and there when Daphne, with a wink at Ginny, smoothly intercepted them, giving Ginny enough time to slip out the door and under Harry's cloak.

Harry led her down a corridor she'd never seen before. When she asked he only told her that as groom it was his duty to arrange a honeymoon. Finally he stopped at a door and pulled off the cloak. With a flourish he opened the door to reveal a large room. In fact, it was a large bedroom covered in rose petals.

    Ginny looked at Harry. "How!?"

Harry smiled at her. "My little secret." He scooped her up in his arms. "Shall we, Mrs. Potter?"

"Why, yes indeed, Mr. Potter, I think we shall."
